Introduction to SAR tugboat manoeuvring

Directed at officers of the merchant marine who serve on board rescue tugboats.

Entry requirements: Second or first class professional pilot certificate.
Deck officers engaged in navigational watchkeeping duties on SAR
vessels or in a position to do so.

Goals

Safely perform routine (non-emergency) manoeuvres on SAR tugs belonging to the SAR fleet.

Program

Theory: Advanced concepts about conventional and azimuthal propulsion systems.
Practice: Simulator exercises:
- Conventional and azimuthal propulsion in open seas and confined berth.
- Berthing and unberthing maneuvering with conventional and azimuthal propulsion.


SIMULATOR
The on-site training at the Jovellanos Centre will be conducted using the Full Mission Bridge Simulator, a real-time simulator, whose main components are a navigation bridge equipped with all the necessary items and equipment to control the vessel and its navigation (full mission bridge), a 360º visual system with 3D images, and a control room from where vessels are controlled, the environmental conditions are programmed, and data is collected for subsequent processing. It features a High-Speed Navigation bridge, two tugboat bridges with 360º views, and two reduced bridges.

Duration

The course consists of 18 certified hours, it´s delivered over a period of 3 days.
